We believe that the skills and knowledge developed through studying English can enrich students’ lives forever. Our students study a range of inspirational and challenging texts which vary from classic to modern literature. We believe all English skills can be taught through a wide range of texts, exploring different cultural perspectives and engaging with a diverse array of voices, from Shakespeare and Dickens to Malala Yousrafzai. For us, the essence of English study is to equip students with the skills they need to communicate effectively, but equally to encourage them to think and to feel. Our students engage in lively debates about the texts they have read and the philosophical and moral issues which underpin them. They also develop skills in close analysis and essay-writing, whilst building their confidence as strong readers, thinkers, writers and speakers.
