Young North Walsham Bakers Raise £294 For Cancer Charity

Posted on: 2nd October 2017

Year 7 students at North Walsham High School appealed to their fellow students’ sweet tooth – and raised £294 for MacMillan Cancer Support in the process.

Every Year 7 student at the school got baking to make cakes for sale as part of the charity’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’, setting up a huge pop-up cake shop in the school’s Atrium to sell their wares to hungry students from across the school at break-time and lunchtime.

Dubbed by teachers as ‘The Great North Walsham Bake-Off’, the event proved hugely popular with sweet-toothed students and staff alike, leading to the bumper sum raised for the charity.

“A huge well done to our entire Year 7 group, who got right behind the MacMillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ idea and cooked so many delicious cakes for our special event,” said NWHS head teacher Neil Powell.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.  First held in 1990, since then the event has raised over £165.5 million for Macmillan.
